Chelsea go all out to sign a striker, creative midfielder and left back this week after defeat.

by Zurich

was a painful defeat to Chelsea fans, to say the least; after dominating proceedings for a long time and losing piles of great chances, the West London club fell at the dearth to a Newcastle team that lost 7 of its key players to injuries and left St. James’ Park without a point for the umpteenth time this season.
This has been the narrative for Chelsea all season after dominating teams like Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United, Everton, West Ham and a host of others and losing painfully. After the game against the Tyneside club, Lampard adimtted that the team is lacking up front and are failing to convert the chances they create.
“We have problems up top, in terms of finishing chances.
“We need to be clinical. The nature of it is we can’t work anymore on it in training, we need to score more goals if we want to get to where we want to be.
“Its clear I know we need to strengthen.”
Having admitted that the team needs a better finisher upfront, Lampard know that players like Kante and Mount who usually sit at the base of the midfield, haven’t been creating enough chances for Tammy. In most of the games, Tammy tracks back to get the ball and the failure of these players in the middle of the park is usually evident when Chelsea come up against teams playing the lowblock i.e defending in numbers. In this case, Chelsea needs a creative player like Isco or Oscar; these players are capable of unlocking the meanest defences with their creative prowess.
The left back position is another area where Chelsea have been lacking supply. With most of the supply coming from the right back area where Reece James and Hudson Odoi have been impressing lately, the left back have been a dead zone as Lampard doesn’t trust Emerson or Alonso in that position, despite being naturals and this have resulted to playing Azpilicuta in that position, and his supply therein have been far from impressive. With Alex Telles keen to leave Porto and Chelsea linked to the impressive Brazillian, a bid is likely this week since Chelsea can’t get their primary target, Ben Chillwell until the summer.
Finally, Tammy Abraham have been in fine form this season scoring 14 goals in the EPL so far, it is also fair to say that he has missed a host of more clear cut chances and needs serious competition if Chelsea would sniff a chance of making the top four this season. Moussa Dembele and Timo Werner have been linked all winter, but these are difficult targets to get in January as both players are instrumental to their team’s success in their domestic championship.
A more realistic target is Gabigol from Inter Milan who was on loan for two seasons in Brazil. He scored 49 goals during his time there and has returned to Inter Milan this month. It is evident that Gabigol is surplus to requirements at the San Siro with Romelu Lukaku, Lautaro Martinez and the potential signing of Olivier Giroud will see him available for another loan spell or outright sale.
With Lampard emphasizing on the need to strengthen the team after that undeserved loss to Newcastle on Saturday, there is no doubt one of these players will be coming through the Stamford bridge this week.
