Nelson Semedo is 26 and one of the players with the highest sale value in Barcelona’s squad. He has not made the right-back spot his exclusive property and although the club like him a lot, the coronavirus pandemic has changed their plans.
Man United are interested in Semedo, whose contract expires in June 2022. He has a 100m release clause. If it weren’t for the virus, some would be tempted to pay it, considering his age, ability and potential, but nobody can now. Barcelona are willing to sell the player if they can get a good fee for him, to bankroll their plans in attack (Neymar, Latuaro).
Barcelona will pass any decent offers on to Jorge Mendes, who represents the player, for him to look at. The player is willing to leave because he’s not first choice.
Semedo, who arrived in 2017, has been important at the club and consistent when he’s played, but not essential – he rotates with Sergi Roberto. Barcelona offered him a new deal until June 30, 2025 but he and Mendes did not want to sign it. That is another reason why now he’s a potential sell.
