In 2018, we discussed SocialPRO, the whole idea was to help people position their businesses using social media among other things and that was the first edition of Ondo State Social Media Day held at Federal University of Technology Akure with the First Lady of Ondo State in attendance, and also Former Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Social Media Analyst/Expert, Social Commentators, Students, Pressmen among others were present.
In 2019, the discussion was about The Good and the Bad of Social Media space, we analyzed ways people can stay on the good side without being the victim of the bad. You may have heard about the death of Cynthia Osokoju through the hands of her Facebook friends in the year 2012! You may have heard about #KeepTheChangeBae that got lots of endorsement from many companies, including First bank because of a tweet! No doubt, one of the reasons why the last administration lost the Presidential Election is because they undermined social media. Should we now pretend that social media is not important in our society today and a day should not be set aside to address some issues regarding the use of Social Media.
This year our focus will be on people sharing their stories with us through the hashtag #BecauseOfSocialMedia; how they have been able to use Social Media for Social Change, how it has affected their lives one way or the other. Using Facebook as an example, we can have parental guide on our DSTV but there is no restriction to what our kids (including adults) can see on Facebook (online).
The theme for this year’s edition will be Leveraging on Social Media. the venue is at CyberOceans, Ijapo Estate, Akure, Ondo State by 3pm on the 29th of August 2020. Our Influencer guests are Segun Awosanya Segalink of twitter and Godswill Enweroghene (@laughpillscomedy) of instagram
