According to reports from Charles Watts, Arsenal has contacted Thomas Partey’s representatives expressing a desire to pay the 27-year-old’s release clause.
The release clause for Ghana international Partey stands at €50m. If Arsenal pays the clause then there is no need for contact between the Gunners and Atletico Madrid officials to seal the transfer.
Arsenal will reportedly make all of the necessary arrangements to push the transfer through today, with a medical to be done in Spain.
Arsenal has been persistently linked with Partey all summer, so these reports will be music to the ears of Gunners fans around the world, especially after their pursuit of Lyon playmaker Houssem Aouar didn’t bear fruit.
Arsenal will now attempt to complete the deal before the 11 pm (midnight CAT) deadline.
