OAU Medicine Graduate Laments Over Health Centre NYSC Posted Him, Says Nigeria Health Is In Deplorable State (PHOTOS)

A graduate of Medicine and Surgery, Obafemi Awolowo University, Olugbenga Jegede who recently got posted to Jigawa state by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has bemoaned the wretched state he met the community health centre he was deployed to in Karkarna town, Yankwashi local government area of Jigawa state.

Gbenga told 9jainsider that he initially wanted to reject the posting letter having seeing the disgraceful state of the community health centre which happens to be the only hospital in the whole local government.

He, however, gave the chairman of the Local Government certain conditions to meet up with before he could stay which ranges from buying the necessary equipment to making the environment conducive for patients.
The young Doctor said he started his work by first washing the floor and the walls of the hospital

He recalled how the Ministry of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire was saying recently that all is well with the country’s health sector, however, from what he said he saw, many things are wrong with the health management in the country.

He further shared pitiful and odious pictures of equipment in the almost dilapidated hospital while noting that the centre has five wards, one labour ward, three health workers, and a chemist and he happened to be the only Doctor posted. He also added that the hospital has not been cleaned for years making it stinks

In his words, β€œIt’s the only primary health care centre in the whole local government. It contains about 5 wards, 1 labour ward, three community health workers, one chemist and I’m the only doctor posted there. No drip stands
β€œThe health sector is in a deplorable state even though the minister of health claimed nothing is wrong.
If things are not checked and revived now, in the next 3-5years, the health sector would crash down completely and the traditional healers would take over as by then almost all health workers would have left the country
