The Congress Appeal Committee for Ondo State All Progressives Congress on Friday said it had not received any petition from the last state congress of the party.
The congress which held on October 16, 2021, had new members of the state executive of the party elected with Mr Ade Adetimehin as the chairman.
Speaking in Akure, the state capital, the Chairman of the Appeal Committee, Mrs Yetunde Adeniji, disclosed that the committee met with the leadership and some critical stakeholders of the party across the 18 local government areas of the state, noting that the party, which adopted consensus mode of congress, might have used internal mechanism to resolve any issue that might have come up during the congress.
She said, “In line with the provision of our party guidelines for the nomination and emergence of party candidates in respect to the just concluded state congress election which took place on Saturday, the 16th of October 2021 in Ondo State, the APC inaugurated an appeal committee for state congress but the five-man Appeal Panel did not receive any petition since its inauguration and our arrival to Ondo.”
According to her, the absence of appeal shows that the congress conducted in the state and supervised by the Chairman of the Ondo APC Congress Committee, Mr Komsol Longap, was an acceptable one to all members.
“We waited for any member who was aggrieved in respect of the state congress of our party, but no one showed up with any petition all through our stay.
“From our observation, we realised there was a strong synergy between the state government and the party which led to a peaceful congress.
“We commend Governor Rotimi Akeredolu for the existing unity among members of the party in the state. We will report this at the national secretariat,” Adeniji lauded
Earlier, in his remarks, the APC state Chairman-elect, Ade Adetimehin, expressed gratitude to members of the Appeal Committee for a job well done.
“Ondo State is a unique state. This is the only state that you see that the congress from the ward to the state was held without rancour and we have been extending this even to governance. Decisions are taken based on the collective system of leadership. We don’t do it alone but we come together to disagree and agree,” Adetimehin commended.
