EFCC detains ex-Edo gov, Igbinedion, over N1.6bn fraud

A former governor of Edo state, Lucky  Igbinedion have been detained by the Economic Financial Crime Commission.

Premium times reported that the governor who finished his tenure in 2007 is been questioned at EFCC headquarter at Abuja for allegedly diverting government fund for his personal use.

The N1.6bn which happens to be Edo government loan was said to be diverted to a company he has interest in.

Mr Igbinedion was once prosecuted in 2008 by the Economic Financial Crime Commission and convicted of embezzling N2.9 billion belonging to Edo State.

  1. He was sentenced to six months imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to a one count charge which was pruned from 191 charges.
