Protest as gunmen attack Plateau mining site, kill four workers.

There was massive protest on Sunday by residents of Dong Community in Jos North Local Governement Area of Plateau State.

The angry residents brandishing green leaves and branches of trees cut from the nearby bush blocked the major roads passing through the community while calling for justice.

A resident of the community, John Emmanuel, who confirmed the development to The PUNCH in Jos on Sunday, gave reasons for the protests.

Emmanuel said, “Yesterday, (Saturday), some gunmen suspected to be herdsmen stormed Dong community in Jos South LGA. They went to a mining site where some people were working in the community and attacked them, killing four persons and injuring two others.

“So, this morning (Sunday) the residents, mainly the Youths in the community, came out to protest against the incessant killings in their community and demanded Justice because there had been series of such attacks and killings in the community in the past with nothing done to stop further incidents.”

The Police Public Relations Officer in Plateau state, Ubah Ogaba, said that the command was aware of the killings.

According to him, security operatives had been deployed in the area while investigation had begun to apprehend the perpetrators.
