The Nigerian police has been urged to develop a system of intelligence gathering that will enhance crime prevention and strengthen crime control.
Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN threw the challenge while playing host to the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 17, Yunus Mohammed Akeera in his office.
Newsmen reports that Governor Akeredolu also solicited a dual police system that can work together effectively to guarantee the safety of citizens.
The governor maintained that the police system is over stretched noting that a single police command is not adequate to protect lives and property which has led to the clamour for state police.
He said a system that will enhance corporate intelligence gathering is needed in the police force to put an end to the various insecutity issues in the country.
Akeredolu who condemned the attack on Kuje Correctional centre and the attack on President Muhammadu Buhari’s advance convoy to Katsina State noted that the incidents are insults on the entire citizenry
