The Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, has said the renovation of the Eyin-Eyo park in Idumota, Lagos Island, will boost the tourism sector of the state.
The Head of the Museum and Monuments Department in the ministry, Mr Olatunde Lawal, stated this, according to a statement made available to journalists on Monday, during the inspection of the progress of the upgrade of park with officers.
He said, “This project was initiated to reinstate aesthetics and renew the infrastructure of the former National Arcade for Soldiers now known as the Adamu Orisa Eyo monument. The renovation was approved by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to make the location more attractive to visitors, tourists and Lagosians.
“The Eyo statue, the cultural and historical symbol of the people and the state, erected within the park was restored. The Eyo statue restoration will reposition the park to its former glory.”
A member of the team in charge of the project, Oluwadurotimi Sadiku, informed the inspection entourage that the park will soon be inaugurated by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
“The park is now an ideal place for relaxation and other social engagements. The project is about 97 per cent complete and would be commissioned by Mr Governor soon,” he said.
