FULL TIME CROATIA 2-1 NIGERIA Croatia will now be the favourites to top the group but Croatia are far from the finished article. They showed plenty of potential and the class of Modric, Rakitic, Perisic and Mandzukic could take them far if they click into gear. Nigeria now have a few days to regroup and they will need to beat Iceland if they are to improve their chances of qualifying for the knockout rounds.
FULL TIME Argentina 1-1 Iceland Iceland have earned a well-fought, well-deserved point against Argentina who will need to improve if they want to win their first tournament for 25 years when they won the Copa America in 1993. For Iceland, they'll be really hopeful this performance is a sign of things to come but they still have a tough group to navigate their way past. If today's performance is anything to go by, it's all to play for in Group D - the group of death.

7:00pm KICK OFF: Spain and Diego Costa get us underway in this highly anticipated clash. Can it live up to expectations?
From tax evasion and coaching issues, we aren't the only ones willing this game to get going. How much will all of that play a part? We'll see, but either way expect quality, drama and brilliant entertainment as two of the best footballing countries in the world go head to head.
Less than 10 minutes from kick off in the most highly-anticipated game of the World Cup so far. The Olympic stadium plays host, and the muggy, humid atmosphere looks to help Spain with their pinpoint passing. The teams are in the tunnel and ready to walk out to a massive roar. With Mohamed Salah having to sit out Egypt's opener against Uruguay, Sergio Ramos has already made an impact on this World Cup. But what can he do this evening? Dangerous in the opposition box, and familiar with Ronaldo his performance could be key tonight A crazy week for Spain, but now it's time for togetherness, with less than 20 minutes to go until kick off Spain's will be determined to put off the field matters to the back of their minds
With both Morocco and Iran showing defensive weaknesses in their game earlier this afternoon, it's likely Portugal and Spain will be fighting it out for top spot in Group B. Even though it's the opener for both sides, it could be the most important game of both of their campaigns, with the result here pivotal as to who they could face in the knockout rounds of the tournament Plenty has been said of Cristiano Ronaldo but what of his international teammates?
Current European champions they are far from a one-man team, with one of their brightest stars Bernardo Silva, a Premier League champion with Manchester City and a really exciting attacking talent that loves to play between the lines. Jose Fonte, now playing in China plays alongside the vast experience of Pepe in the centre of defence.
Diego Costa vs Pepe will be a battle to look out for early on. Spanish media are reporting
6:41pm Portugal and Spain begin their World Cup in just a couple of hours in Sochi. Check out line up below:
6:02pm FULL TIME Moroco 0-1 Iran Another African country suffer defeat in their first game of the tournament. Who could have thought that Iran could beat a Moroccan team.
Half-time whistle blows in St. Petersburg. 0-0. Morocco started really well and Iran have grown into the game nicely, but neither has been able to break the deadlock as of yet.
June 15, 2018 3:45pm Iran and Morocco both possess real solidity defensively. A game with few clear chances thus far as half time nears.
